Walking Humbly Together

Walking Humbly Together

New video series

Over the past two years, leaders within the National Religious Vocation Conference (NRVC) have embarked on a transformative journey of learning and unlearning behaviors, seeking to deepen our understanding of intercultural humility and anti-racism.

At the autumn Member Area Coordinator Gathering, 13 Member Area Coordinators courageously shared their experiences on camera. Earlier this year, the NRVC Board and staff recorded their videos, and there are now 25 unique stories on our YouTube Channel to encourage others committed to lifelong growth in interculturality and anti-racism through the Gospel values of justice, dignity, and belonging.

By weaving together humble narratives, we hope the Walking Humbly Together video series sparks meaningful conversations and inspires advocacy across cultures and generations in transforming relationships. While all of us have implicit biases, we can become better ministers when we move from minimalization behaviors such as ignoring, dismissing, or overlooking harmful words towards respecting differences without stereotyping or generalizing cultures.

The first video in the series launched on Juneteenth, the oldest known holiday that commemorates the day in 1865 when the enslaved people of Texas learned that they had been emancipated more than two years earlier. It is a day to work for the Gospel values of justice, dignity, and belonging, and the hope for a more just future.

The NRVC is sharing these inspiring narratives on Facebook to encourage viewers to examine their own practices and perspectives on interculturality and anti-racism. These videos posted on NRVC’s Facebook page and YouTube Channel aim to be tools for education and dialogue suitable for use at congregational gatherings, workshops, and meetings.

We are grateful to the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation for a three-year grant to fund video production, pre- and post-IDI assessments, various workshops, and additional resources.
